Renaissance restaurant, Visegrád
July 4, 2016
We cordially invite you to visit our historical town, Visegrád. Visegrád was always in the centre of attention during history due to its favourable amenities and essential strategical role. The town became internationally important in the 15th century during the reign of the Anjou Dynasty. Charles Robert started the construction of the Royal Palace on the main street of the town close to the Danube Bank around 1320. Within couple of years this centre became the royal headquarters and the favourite residing place of the King. Renaissance Restaurant was opened in 1997 as a family owned establishment. It brings back the unique atmosphere of the renaissance royal feasts held in the Royal Palace of Visegrád by King Mátyás. Meals are served in hand-made crockery by waiters in costumes. Their cuisine combines the flavours of the age with the characteristics of modern gastronomy. They try to support local suppliers and purchase the ingredients from the region whenever possible. The restaurant has a terrace with a panoramic view of the Danube. (Pictures can be found here: http://www.renvisegrad.hu/#termek-section)

Tihany
Balaton, the largest shallow lake in Central Europe, was formed by tectonic sagging around 25,000 years ago. Tihanyi-félsziget (Tihany peninsula) divides the lake into two basins. The characteristic view of the Mediterranean landscape was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of year ago as shown today by two giant calderas. The remains of these craters form two little lakes, without outlet, higher than the water level of Balaton: Belső-tó, which is popular with anglers, and Külső-tó, a paradise for aquatic birds. As a result of volcanic follow-up activity, thermal springs created more than one hundred geyser hills in the peninsula. Beside geological features, the peninsula is famous for its exceptional wildlife: the area became the first nature reserve of Hungary in 1952. The ancient Tihany village was founded in the Middle Ages when King Andrew I founded here in 1055 a burial-place for the royal family and built a monastery, where Benedictine monks were settled. During the Turkish times, in the 16-17th century, the monastery, which had been transformed into a fortress, was demolished. It was rebuilt in baroque style in the 18th century and became a symbol of Tihany. Tihany is a jewel of not only the Balaton but also Hungary.
Balatonfüred
Balatonfüred is a small town with a population of 13.500. It is an ancient settlement which was already inhabited during the reign of the Roman Empire. Ancient residential districts, old buildings, churches, intimate vineyards, parks and old trees send their message to the people of our present time. The promenade is named after the Nobel-prize winner Indian Poet Rabindranath Tagore who was healed in the autumn of 1926 in the Hospital for Heart Diseases. We can find his memorial tree and statue in the east side of the promenade. In the park of the memorial trees many famous Hungarian and foreign poets, politicians and scientists planted trees.
Herend Porcelain Manufactory
The manufactory operates today as the world's largest porcelain manufactory and as a profitable enterprise. Herend performs the balance of tradition and innovation passing on its 19th Century traditions in the 21st Century. Archival research proved that Vince Stingl, born in Sopron, who learned the craft of the fine ceramics industry in Vienna, founded the forerunner of Herend Porcelain Manufactory. The Manufactory flourished, Herend enjoyed its halcyon days under Mór Fischer's management. After taking over the management from Vince Stingl, Mór Fischer truly did his utmost to make excellent quality porcelain measured by international standards. International success: at the Great Exhibition in London, Queen Victoria orders a china set with a butterfly and floral pattern, which Mór Fischer names after her, and which the world has since known as the Victoria pattern.
